Louis Ravat

Louis RAVAT is a studio painter who requires a certain disorder; to be surrounded by his latest creations so the vibrations of saturated colors can have their proper place in his imagination, give new expression to what his eye records in nature or what is born of his imagination.
He works carefully, first preparing the base and then designing spaces that he creates with very diluted acrylic "that allows for all regrets", he only approaches work in oil because it offers a wider range of possibilities.
But neither you nor I know the technique that allows him to eventually succeed in marrying his original subjets and the successive layers, reaching the style that belongs to him alone, the style that allows us to say, “this painting is a RAVAT. "
Louis RAVAT is an alchemist who distills his technical virtuosity in the service of creation; a generous artist who leaves us room for our own interpretations.

The view of the historian of art

The work of Louis RAVAT is recognizable among all others: structured with a solid design, the composition is gradually infused with color and light, revealing a natural metamorphosis, "atmosphérisée", where technical skill and purpose combine freely.
The famous ZAO WOU KI said: "Paint, paint, paint still, even paint, in the best possible way, the empty and full, light and dense, living and breathing." Louis RAVAT seems to share this point of view, and after many years of incessant research, he has arrived at an economy of means that gives his work this incredible expressive force.
Following in the footsteps of the greatest painters of lyrical abstraction, his work expresses a vision, his vision of things, allowing the viewer to take in his work with their own eyes: "When a spectator passes in front of my paintings… then manages to tell me what he sees, what he feels, it’s sometimes very far from my idea, so this demonstrates the creation of a second painting.”

Biographic marks :
Born in Burgundy in 1936.
Self-taught, he painted before adolescence. Received guidance from Roger LAGOUTTE who introduced him to Andre LHOTE and Roger BISSIERE.
Installed in Provence since 1990, he devoted himself entirely to painting.
Encounters with Jean PONS and Joseph ALESSANDRI helped his work evolve into its current form, more positive and personal
