With FREDERIQUE K, born in 1956, appearances can be deceiving: behind an extroverted femininity lurks a fierce worker who, after being an architect working in her own agency for more than 10 years, became a teacher of Applied Arts, then an Art-therapist, then a writer... and is now fully devoted to painting.
At first, her work seems simple and nonchalant, but we are speechless in front her painting and drawing, so beautifully controlled; FREDERIQUE K plays with all the possibilities of oil painting, alternating sweetness and strength (and violence, sometimes), she paints women like no one else, searching for their "essence" to illustrate their beauty, elegance, sweetness, fragility, sensuality...
I love this work, both highly decorative and profound, that Frédérique offers to us in continuity with Greek art, the Italian renaissance, VERMEER, BONNARD, the Russian constructivists from the 20’s, ROTHKO, HARTUNG and FAUTRIER.
