Etienne meneau

I discovered Etienne Meneau (born in 1955) in March 2008, during his exhibition at the Musée d'Aquitaine, in Bordeaux; dedicated to the history of Bordeaux and its region, from prehistory to the present day, the Museum regularly invites outstanding artists to  freely compare their creations to parts of Musée they choose themselves. I was struck by the quiet dialogue that had been established between the works of Etienne Meneau and some very old parts of the museum.
For 20 years, it revolves around the same way he does tirelessly "with constancy and serenity".
But do not ask him to comment on his work or tell you his life!
Born 20 years ago, he probably would have been close to the movement "supports-surfaces" where the subject of the painting is the painting itself, the painting do not appeal to the personality of the artist, or his biography (extremely brief in the case of Meneau!), or the history of art. Painting is a fact in itself, a simple bare pictorial elements.
However, Etienne Meneau does not leave us infront of a single canvas, without loophole: before this obsessive and enigmatic, beyond the drawing, composition, light and color, it leaves us to our own dreamlike ramblings.
