Jacki MARECHAL

Jacki MARECHAL, born in 1954, owned a gallery for 20 years and doesn’t know exactly why he decided to "cross to the other side of the easel”, it imposed itself on him like a revelation. In artistic expression, he found the wisdom and freedom he could not reach through religion or philosophy. He usually works on several paintings at once, without preparatory sketches, without knowing where he is going, only guided by shapes and colors. He doesn’t look for more or less representational elements to focus on and stops when he has the feeling that "it works."
Jacki is a free man and I am very impressed to see how, in a few years, he gradually separated without repudiating-of-learning of its teachers and found its own language.
Jacki MARECHAL produces elegant, beautiful and relaxing paintings that give us a soothing feeling and invite us to moments of contemplation.

The view of the historian of art

Both rational and emotional, disciplined and gracious, Jacki MARECHAL’s paintings are harmonious and generous. With nobility, his work gradually reveals itself. First attracted by the flatness of the canvas, affirmed by the interactions of subjets, the eye then discovers a third dimension; abstraction slowly gives way to free and imaginary representation…
We go from one surprise to another: from geometry to color, light to relief. And all these elements fit together perfectly to create elegant, silky and bright spaces, true works of art where we our gaze wants to wander, where we want to enter and rest ourselves.
Like paintings by Paul KLEE, the work of Jacki MARECHAL "does not reproduce what’s visible, it makes it visible", slowly revealing the intrinsic beauty of shapes and the world.
