The view of the historian of art

In one of his major paintings, GAUGUIN tried to achieve the alchemy between "beliefs, religion and primitive style and great nature with its cry." A century later, Isabelle LEBEC seems to pursue the same quest. Her work gives us nature, strong and unchanging, and serene and intense religious scenes with an economy of means close to the pictorial cloisonnisme and Synthetism dear to the masters of the Marqueses and the Catholics "Nabis", such as SERUSIER. In this work, grounded and luminous, the desired beauty, soothing for people, is expressed by simplified and flattened forms with marked contours, straight lines and independent vivid colors. The primitive and grandiose here tend toward absolutism and invite us, gently, to see this colorful "music" almost non-representational, dear to HEGEL.
