Philippe DEVE

Philippe DEVE, born in 1937, is an artist of extreme virtuosity who works mostly with acrylic to ensure continuity, and without prior sketches, executes luminous, poetic and balanced paintings.
I like the presence of opposites in his work: his compositions are solid and light at the same time, rigorous but adventurous, subtle and nuanced colors are mixed with others, more violent and vivid. It is a very sophisticated style of painting without sophistication being the focus.
Philippe is constantly running from repetition in his process, he said, "A painting is finished when I cannot add anything and experience the feeling that I will not be able to repeat it in the future."

The view of the historian of art

Abstract painters have long had to choose between the cold and rational architectural art of the constructivists, and the "informal" expressive, emotionally charged form of abstraction.
