The view of the historian of art
Perfectly at ease in the world of creation and without inhibition, Patricia CHATELAIN juggles total abstraction and suggested representation, often informed by the titles. Through the use of different materials (pigments, acrylic, marble powder, sand, lime…) and color, she recreates sensations experienced during her travels: untouched nature, marks left by time on a subject, the sun meeting a wall, imperfections due to wear, heat, smells, sensations… It does not reproduce an impression but expresses the immediate echo of the soul of this impression. Thus, the pictorial event is not an arduous searching, a past meeting or event reconstituted in a narrative way, but an immediate impression, without the slightest distance. We recognize the soul of the thing, or the soul of one who has seen it, the essence of a human experience. Each of her paintings is an invitation to dive into a new world and participate directly in this live and recreated reality, as total phenomenological experience, adding to it our own sensitivity.

The work of Patricia CHATELAIN, born in 1963, is fully dedicated to the revelation of world’s beauty; she paints the walls and landscapes of her memory voluptuously. She is an abstract expressionist for whom the emotional power of color and texture play a premier role, more than gesture.
